The Albquerque Sign Language Academy is a K-12 (with adult transition program) free to attend public charter school. We support 147 deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students in an inclusive environment teaching and utilizing American Sign Language (ASL) to keep us connected. We are the first and only state certified ASL-English dual language school in the nation. ASLA is built upon serving three important entities:the child, the family, and the community. We offer sign language classes to family and community members to promote school, family and community interaction and increase awareness of deaf and hard of hearing children and their abiities. Through our partnership with the University of New Mexico, we are the leader of deaf and special education reform in the state and are currently supporting dual language ASL-English teacher certifications and trainings. We are currently in the process of expanding to better serve the growing need in our community for our special school.
