America SCORES Bay Area is a nonprofit that empowers children to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. We provide after-school programming to under-served youth (elementary and middle school) at more than 72 schools in the Bay Area. Our program is comprised of what we call our Youth Development Hat Trick - Soccer which integrates nutrition, skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork; Poetry which enables our poet-athletes to unleash their voices, sharing personal stories, creating original works of poetry, and learning new, creative means to express themselves; and service-learning projects where poet-athletes become agents of change in their own communities, diving into research around local needs and identifying a challenge to address through community service as a team. The students lead every step of the way.
