American Legion Post 597 was chartered March 15, 1947. We are located in Historic Downtown Carrollton, Texas. We have a membership upwards of three hundred Legionnaires. In addition, American Legion Post 597 partners with affiliated organizations including American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Riders.

The Post is one of the largest and fastest growing American Legion Posts in North Texas and serves a large community
in Dallas and Denton counties. Each year, we conduct numerous programs that benefit local veterans, their families and the community. Programs include Toys for Tots, Patriot Paws, Girls State, Boys State and the High School Oratorical contest just to name a few.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national
security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the Legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.
