The American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) is a national organization founded in 1949 to support the Osteopathic profession. Doctors of Osteopathic medicine (DOs) are fully licensed physicians trained to promote the body’s natural tendency toward health and self-healing. They practice according to the latest science and use the latest technology but also consider options to complement pharmaceuticals and surgery.

Funds raised by the AOF provide scholarships for medical students who are at risk of having to drop out of school due to finances; help send students and physicians to areas of the world where children and adults are dying of highly treatable diseases; and support researchers who are discovering life-saving new ways to treat diseases.

One of our recent scholarship recipients came to the US from Vietnam. Student Doctor Phuong Daniels grew up in extreme poverty.  She told the AOF, “Our small, 8x8 square-foot photocopy shop was our home. During the day it would be filled with busy customers, and at night we would cover the dirty floor with a sedge mat for sleeping.” Phuong was a 2022 minority scholarship winner.

A humanitarian grant recipient shared, “As a result of my time in Ghana, we were able to treat approximately 2000 patients that came in for a variety of reasons. I treated men, women, and children with malaria, typhoid fever, anemia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, cough, and flu. These are all treatable illnesses that many die from because of the lack of health care.”
