More than 20 years ago, a group of architects and community development professionals founded Architreasures to facilitate partnerships with low-income communities to transform public spaces and support the revitalization of disinvested neighborhoods.
Since then, Architeasures’ work has produced 150+ projects across 35 Chicago neighborhoods, resulting in tangible, physical improvements in some of our most under-served communities, while promoting civic engagement and social connections among project participants.Â
Architreasures’ place-based art and design initiatives serve as a catalyst to holistic community development. Over a year or longer, we partner with stakeholders to implement creative strategies-including design/build projects, public artwork and/or community arts programming that strengthen neighborhood capacity. Grounded by local histories, cultural assets and aspirations of a community, our placekeeping/placemaking efforts nurture collaborative processes and creative synergies to evolve and grow thriving neighborhoods.
