The Armed Servives YMCA enhances the lives of military memberes and their families in spirit, mind and body through progerams relevant to the unique challenges of military life.

The arsenal of programs helps to alleviate stress, assist with life challenges and increase the morale and welfare of our nation's heroes, enabling them to better focus on their mission of service to our country.  The ASYMCA collaborates with local installation leadership to ensure a network of support for military families stationed at Fort Hood; our Nation's largest military base with soldiers from all over the state, country and world.  This collaboration allows us to identify and address gaps in servies that pose a hardship to service members and thier families-hardships that can negatively affect mission readiness.

The ASYMCA/Fort Hood primary program focusare areas are Healthy Living (promoting physical and mental health); Youth Development (supporting education, academic and social engagement); Social Responsability (providing affordable, quality childcare to strengthen families and moral and spiritual values).

The ASYMCA is open to ALL community members, military and civilion...with only a handful of programs specifically designed to support the military family.  These programs are Children's Waiting Room (provides FREE childcare at Darnall Army Medical Center on base and Darnall medical centers in the community to allow parents the opportunity to attend needed medical appointments knowing their children are in a safe environment); Operation Kid Comfort (provides handmade quilts and other supportive items to children under 17 with deployed parents); Operation Holiday Joy (provides toys and holiday meals to enlisted families in need).

The newest and most needed prgram for our military families is the ASYMCA monthly food pantry.  Food insecurity for our military families is a national epedemic.  In the Greater Killeen/Fort Hood area, over 30% of our enlisted military and 10% of our veterans suffer food insecurity EVERYDAY.  A donation from the Women's Auxillary the American Legion, ASYMCA started first monthly food pantry in October of 2021.  Since, then more then 300 families every month stand in line for bags of food for their families.  We have had to turn our military away when the food runs out for that day/month.  We have enlisted private donors but is still not enough to fulfill the need of our military's food insecurity. As of August 20022, we have been able to provide over 2,000 families with 29,000 pounds of food.  It could be more with more funding; hence, no military is turned away.

The vision of the ASYMCA is to continue to serve and increase services to Fort Hood families and the surrounding communities as they are both growing in population.
