Asahi Gakuen is a Japanese Saturday School based in Los Angeles. Established in 1969, Asahi Gakueh has provided an environment for Japanese children living outside of Japan where they are given opportunities to learn the Japanese language, customs, and culture in the Japanese school system. The school was established with the hopes that the bilingual /bi-cultural children will someday act as a bridge between Japan and the US.

There are four campuses total: Torrance (current enrollment of approximately 363 students), Orange (270 students), San Gabriel (154 students), and Santa Monica (210 students).  These four campuses are committed to serve children living in the greater Los Angeles area in their pursuit of a well-rounded Japanese education.

Just recently celebrating the school’s 50th anniversary and seeing many alumni attending the big 4-campus Sports Day with their grandparents, parents, and children, we as the PTA can proudly say the Asahi Gakuen Institute has indeed kept their word in supporting the Japanese-American community. Since the pandemic, Asahi Gakuen has been remote for more than 1 year and finally have been able to return to the campus. Seeing the smiles of the students real-time have been a great relief for the PTA. It has been 2 years since any on-campus events have been held. Although there may be some modifications/restrictions due to the pandemic protocols, we would like to slowly bring back some of the events that we have been enjoying in the past, starting with the annual bazaar.
