ABOUT AVANCE-HOUSTON
We are a United Way Agency dedicated to supporting parents and children. Our mission is to create pathways to economic mobility for families through high-quality, culturally responsive, two-generation programming that ensures school readiness for young children and opportunities for parents to build social and economic capital. We pride ourselves in providing parents with the necessary tools to guide and teach their children. AVANCE’s motto is “Parents are the First Teachers, Home is the First Classroom.” We strongly believe in the influence that all parents have in contributing to the success of their young ones. AVANCE has been serving families for over 30 years and we have seen first-hand the difference that can be made in each of these lives. Last year, AVANCE-Houston served over 2700 families via our 19 centers throughout greater Houston.
OUR PROGRAMS
All our programs are provided free of charge to families in the surrounding Houston, Pasadena, and Spring communities. AVANCE-Houston offers five programs: Parent Child Education Program (PCEP), Adult Education, Healthy Relationships, Early Head Start and Head Start.
Parent Child Education Program (PCEP)
Through our Parent Child Education Program (PCEP) we prepare workshops and engaging activities for both the children and adults. Upon completion of this program, parents can transition to other programs to create a stronger family bond, prepare for higher education and/or join the workforce. By then, their children are also ready to enter Head Start or elementary school.
ADULT EDUCATION
Our Adult Education program was created to assist parents and individuals to pursue their education by completing their GED and providing a brighter future for years to come. We have successfully been a part of many lives that have been transformed by completing our course and obtaining their GED.
HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Healthy Relationships is dedicated to youth and adults. We focus on family, relationships, and marriage education workshops for the adults. For the youth, we focus on strategies to build their futures through, relationship building, education advancement and development for life.
HEAD START
Head Start is a comprehensive program for children three to five years of age. The program prepares young children to enter kindergarten by helping them to develop mentally, socially, emotionally, physically, and ultimately, school ready. We are proud to provide the foundation for the lives of many children all over Houston towards a successful future.
EARLY HEAD START
Early head start is a program offered from as early as six weeks old to three years of age. It promotes healthy prenatal outcomes and enhances the development of young children to create a healthy family environment
