BEACON was founded in 1992 by the Benedictine Sisters of  Viriginia responding to a need for an adult education and literacy program in Manassas and Manassas Park, Prince William County, VA. A secular program that welcomes participants of all backgrounds and faiths, BEACON serves hundreds of students a year, including a growing number of refugees from Afghanistan who have settled in our area.

Our scope of services include eight levels of English language instruction, work readiness skills training, U.S. Citizenship exam preparation, computer literacy, resume and job interview coaching, one-on-one tutoring, and summer classes in conversational English.

The guiding focus at the heart of our program is to help low-income adult immigrants in our community learn English and build job skills so that they can take advantage of educational and employment opportunities, access vital services, provide for their families, and achieve whatever goals they set for themselves.

Recent awards: "One of the Best" local nonprofits in the region (Greater Washington Catalouge for Philanthropy, 2020-2021); 2021 Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Award: Arts & Education.
