Big Table exists to see the lives of those working in the restaurant and hospitality industry transformed by building community and caring for those who are in crisis, transition, or falling through the cracks. Our initial care response generally falls into five critical impact areas that directly stabilize those in crisis who make up much of the restaurant and hospitality industry: housing stability, medical and dental care, counseling/emotional and mental health, job readiness, and addiction recovery. The funds for this care project specifically aids in care operations by providing financial support to help our recipients thrive in these five categories. The restaurant and hospitality industry has the highest concentration of mental health issues of any working group in the nation. Big Table strongly addresses mental health needs to keep an individual from advancing symptoms. We connect them to either a licensed professional or a life coach to find hope and healing. The funds would also be used to support those struggling with addiction recovery through counseling – ongoing relationships with real accountability and support. Additionally, the funds would be used to promote skills training and workforce readiness, job readiness, career advancement, and to support growth of diverse businesses in underinvested communities while providing access to tools, resources and mentoring to help advance progress. By thriving in these areas, it greatly impacts quality of life for the individuals and in turn boosting the quality of life in the San Diego community.
