Birdies4Brains launched in 2011 from an obsession among friends to combine the passion for golf with fundraising to support brain injury survivors.

Our Inspiration
"My sister Christine nearly passed away after suffering a brain aneurysm. Her experience exposed me to the realities that most face in recovering from a brain injury, especially after the physical wounds have healed but the effects and trauma continue. I knew there was a need for an organization to help others in similar situations as there are often gaps in what’s needed and provided via insurance. My sister’s recovery has been a miracle and most are not as lucky so the work must continue."

-Brian Eder, President & Founder, Birdies4Brains

Our Mission
We raise money to help brain injury survivors experiencing financial hardship and award grants that are tailored to their needs.

Our Vision
Design an expanded suite of fundraising events that differentiates us from other brain injury charities so that we can increase and expand our financial support offerings to brain injury survivors on a local and national scale.

Birdies4Brains Grant Nominations:  Submitting a Grant Nomination is Easy (https://www.b4bmn.org/grants)

Our website states, "If you know someone in our community who has a specific need as a result of suffering either an acquired or traumatic brain injury, please complete our grant nomination form below."  The text below is an excerpt from our Grant Nomination Form, which can be viewed in its entirety via the link above.

We strive to customize our grants to meet the needs of each brain injury survivor experiencing financial hardship.

The grant assessment is comprehensive and involves verifying the financial gap and coordinating the logistics related to the grant itself.  The entire end-to-end process from nomination to receiving a grant is typically 4-6 weeks.

After you submit this form, the system will notify our Executive Director, who will inform the Board of Directors.  A board member is typically assigned within 2-3 business days. They will then reach out to you to begin the assessment process.

Note:  As part of the assessment process, we routinely request copies of overdue bills, service and/or equipment cost estimates, receipts, etc.

Once the initial assessment is complete and it is determined your nomination is eligible for a grant, the board member will propose a grant award for the Board of Directors to review.  Each board member will vote to approve or deny the grant nomination.  If a nomination receives a majority of yes votes, the grant is approved and the process to coordinate the logistics begin.

Nominators and/or nominees will be informed of the voting outcome by their assigned board member.  If approved, the nominee will receive a mailed letter confirming the grant awarded and how the grant will be distributed.

In the space below, please include:

(1) A summary of the nominee's brain injury story to help us better understand their journey to date.  This may include the type of brain injury sustained, when and how it happened, and their recovery experience.

(2) A summary of how the grant funds would be used.  This may include but is not limited to such examples as overdue bills, medical equipment, home repairs, gas, groceries, and therapy services to name a few.
