Every Friday of the school year, more than 5,300 elementary and middle school children, who depend on their school for free breakfast and lunch, receive a blessing in their backpack.
That blessing is a package of food specially designed to bridge the 65-hour hunger gap from Friday lunch to Monday breakfast. When these children return to school on Monday, they are replenished and ready to learn. For more information about our program visit www.chicago.blessingsinabackpack.org.
