Blind Early Services of Tennessee (BEST) was founded in 2020 by two local mothers of children with visual impairments. What they noticed in the early stages of parenthood was that there were very little resources for young children to receive the early intervention, specialized care they needed to reach their best potential. Since 90% of what a typical child learns in the first five years of life is through vision, it is crucial they receive these specialized interventions as early as possible. BEST ensures that families are empowered and equipped to provide blind and visually impaired children aged 0-5 in the state of Tennessee to achieve their best start.

Specialized services include, vision screenings and functional assessments, early intervention home visits by vision-certified professionals, family advocacy, family support groups and events, and more.

We are currently serving 94 families/children in Tennessee. Since our inception in 2020, we have served a total of 153 children and their families. Thanks to generous support from charitable donations, grants, and through public-private partnerships, we are able to provide the majority of these services free of cost. This is important, as the cost of our services is appoximately one hundred dollars per hour.
