Bloom serves as an educational alternative to children whose social-emotional, physical, or academic needs are not being or would not be met in conventional school. Our mission is to celebrate and nurture the natural curiosity of every child through self-directed education. We operate under the philosophy that children are natural learners and will learn the skills and content they need through their own interests and natural inclinations- whenever they feel it is relevant or important to their lives. Through self-directed learning, we aim to ensure that all children are given an opportunity to succeed- regardless of their race, economic status, or academic level! Through our experiences as students and educators in the school system, we have witnessed many children who have so much to offer yet they are not given an equitable opportunity to succeed due to their socioeconomic status. In addition, families in lower-income areas have expressed a need for an alternative educational space for their children and many have reported early developments of anxiety and depression. We believe all children deserve access to a learning environment that is more inquiry-based so that children may connect with their learning and feel prepared to create a future that is meaningful to them- whether it be through entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, travel, or college.
