Established in 1986, Bloom Our Youth is a nationally recognized and accredited 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to “strengthen foster children and empower the families that care for them.”
Bloom is changing the way foster care is done in Georgia by connecting the community to evidence-based, outcome-driven programs that support and strengthen the lives of vulnerable children and their families. The pillars of Bloom’s family-centric, three-pronged approach to advocating for foster children and families include the Bloom Foster Care Program, Bloom University, The Bloom Closet, and The Bloom Closet Express.
Through the Bloom Foster Care program, Bloom recruits, trains, and certifies families who care for foster children, including medically fragile children, children with significant psychiatric issues, and pregnant and parenting teen girls. Bloom University provides further support through evidence-based, trauma-informed training and resources like emergency crisis intervention and one-on-one in-home parent coaching. To date, Bloom has provided a safe place to live for more than 2,000 foster children.
The Bloom Closet is Bloom’s cost-free boutique, providing over 4,000 foster children each year with free essentials like clothing, school supplies, toys, and more. The Bloom Closet Express makes these free resources available to an additional 1,000 foster children in underserved communities throughout Georgia, too far away to access The Bloom Closet. Both The Closet and The Express are much more than resource centers. Every detail, from staff interactions to inventory quality and décor heightens service delivery to a dignity-restoring, uplifting, and personalized experience for every foster child.
