Our mission is to create transcendent works of beauty that are offered as prayers for the planet by creating site-specific aerial dance works that align with our times and encompass our human experience. Blue Lapis Light transforms urban spaces and engages architecture with movement music and the environment and is committed to diversity by providing equitable opportunities to artists, teachers, students and underserved communities.
Blue Lapis Light collaborates with teens from local social service organizations to create original dance performances. These performances are the culmination of semester long classes. Performers explore their lives through words, music, movement and aerial dance. Our classes introduce aerial dance technique and demonstrate the benefits of building strength and body awareness, while teaching safety intstruction. Students experience both the joy of flight and its challenges. Youth Taking Flight helps teens build confidence and self-esteem through movement.
Blue Lapis Light is a site-specific aerial dance organization creating performances that explore movement through the air, extending boundaries, defying edges and suspending graceful athleticism for the risk of igniting ephemeral beauty. Our productions are mostly large-scale site specific works that take place in non-traditional locations like power plants, parking garages, bridges and the exterior of buildings.
Blue Lapis Light also runs a full-scale aerial studio on our property, teaching aerial silks and harness work 7 days a week to over 600 students per year.
