Blue Sky Fund’s (BSF) mission is to provide transformational experiences for Richmond area youth through outdoor education. Blue Sky helps primarily youth of color from under-resourced areas across Richmond, VA to improve academic achievement, especially in the sciences, by engaging them in active outdoor education with the support of staff trained in trauma-informed care. We strengthen resilience through outdoor experiences that expand horizons, increase confidence, and build collaboration skills.

Blue Sky’s three core programs – Explorers, Outdoor Adventure Clubs, and the Outdoor Leadership Institute – provide youth with outdoor education, increasing their access to the city’s green spaces, enhancing emotional connection to nature, and promoting environmental stewardship for Richmond’s future generations to take positive climate actions. These programs serve approximately 2,300 3rd to 12th grade students each school year.
