The Bonney Lake Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2009. Our Mission is to provide food and support to our neighbors facing food insecurity while leading the fight against hunger in our community. In 2020 we went from serving 175 to more than 1,000 households each week.

Hunger disparities affect all cultures and are rooted in the inequalities of those with the least social, economic, and political power. We believe that no one should go hungry, feel judged, fearful, or embarrassed to seek our services.

Our program objective is that those hungry or food insecure will receive nutritious food by removing the barriers of access, increasing equity in our processes, and dignity-focused work. Our food pantry program, which we call ‘The Market’ because it looks like a metropolitan market, is a grocery store choice-model that ensures nutritional food is accessible and equitable to those hungry and food insecure. We provide fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and seafood, dairy, and non-perishable proteins. We also provide ethnic and dietary sensitive foods. A choice model provides clients with an environment of dignity and respect, adds control to what foods they select compared to being given foods that may be unwanted, and less waste in the food system when clients pick foods they will eat. We want our pantry to be an environment where children can come with their parents and not realize that they are getting food from a pantry. Removing the negative connotation associated with a food pantry, and the stigma that people who use our services do not deserve better is our goal, we are changing the narrative of how food banks operate.
