The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has been providing services to the community's youth for over 68 years. The BGCO is a youth development organization whose mission is to inspire, develop and enrich young people to reach their fullest potential as confident, productive, responsible, caring members of society. To this end, the development and implementation of programs that address enriching academic and educational opportunities, combined with developing strong character values in the youth we serve, is critical to providing the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders. We currently have eight sites and serve 1,100 members each day. BGCO has extensive experience with implementing research-based, outcome-driven youth development programs. These mentoring programs have a proven track record of making a difference in the lives of youth, including at-risk youth. We also have a history of providing outreach to and enticing at-risk youth from high crime neighborhoods to become involved in Club activities. Our three priority outcomes for youth are: • Academic Success -- Graduation from high school with a plan for the future • Good Character & Citizenship -- Be an engaged citizen involved in the community • Healthy Lifestyles -- Adopt a healthy diet, healthy lifestyle choices and a lifelong commitment to fitness The BGCO provides programs in the core program areas of arts, health and life skills, character and leadership, sports and recreation and education and career development. The BGCO has a specific emphasis on Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Art and Math (STREAM) programming designed to ensure each member's development and to ensure they have the 21st century skills needed to be successful in the future.
