Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia currently serves more than 200 kids in Pickens and Gilmer Counties. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. I have seen firsthand that we continue to succeed in this mission every day, whether it is with teens who ask us to help them complete a job application or arrange a college tour, kids who ask if they can read to someone, or help with homework, or when our Club families go above and beyond with our community service projects. Not only do we meet our mission, but we also help connect our Club families with needed resources like boxes of food, gifts for families at Christmas, tutoring, and mental health care. In our rural communities, our Clubs are not just a necessary resource for families, but part of our families. Last year, one of our Club kids lost his mother. He was part of our Garden club, which was a partnership with our local Master Gardeners, and they helped him plant and grow sunflowers to place on his mother’s grave. This is what we are about. While we succeed in our mission, it’s really about so much more.
