According to KidsCount.org, over 62,000 children in Macomb and Oakland counties were living below the poverty threshold in 2015. These children are members of families that fight daily to keep their heads above water. A negative life event - a death, serious injury or illness; an accident or fire; parental separation or divorce; or a job loss, to name a few - can push them over the edge. When this happens, the negative consequences can include long periods of hunger, health issues or, worse case, homelessness.
At Branches Crew, we believe in doing our part to help when families in our community face such events. We are a registered 501c3, non-profit humanitarian organization, led by volunteers that strive to better the quality of life for underprivileged children in Michigan. Every penny we raise goes back to the children in our community. 100% volunteer based, we even cover our overhead from our own pockets.
Founded in mid-2010, we created a drop off program that provides support to families faced with these types of emergencies. We give clothing, bedding, hygiene supplies, etc. to our beneficiaries. Our goal is to help them avert these negative consequences and allow them to continue to work toward financial stability. Through the end of 2016 we have helped over 300 children—roughly 1 per week.
WE WANT TO DO MORE!
We believe we are now in a position to extend our reach further into the community. We are holding our Inaugural Benefit Gala on October 6, 2017. We are creating a unique event at the Detroit Historical Museum. By providing a fun filled evening that includes a strolling dinner, open bar, silent auction, and gift raffle, we hope to encourage community engagement and support for our cause. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support our drop off program.Â
