The Briscoe Animal Resource Center ("BARC") is a small, primarily volunteer-run shelter in Uvalde, Texas, whose mission is to manage pet overpopulation and encourage responsible pet ownership, thereby promoting the human-pet bond in our community. Despite working in a rural and economically depressed region – where there are more strays and less resources – we successfully find loving homes for pets in need. Our Flights to Furever division works with multiple rescues in New York, whereby we transport hundreds of unwanted pets to the NY area for their adoption into loving homes.  We have a 95% live outcome rate for the animals in our care (exceeding the 90% required for “no kill” status).  In addition, a large portion of our fundraising goes towards vouchers which provide free spay/neuter services for Uvalde County families living in low-income households. This program allows us to reduce overall pet overpopulation in our community and supports our neighbors in achieving their personal goals to be responsible pet owners.
