Creating fun. Building community. Empowering the next generation.

Kesem is a student run, national nonprofit dedicated to providing year-round support and a week-long summer camp to kids affected by a parent's cancer- whether they have passed, undergoing treatment, or in remission. At camp, we give our campers an opportunity to be a kid again, to escape the stressors of everyday life.

The University of Kansas chapter of Kesem serves children in the state of Kansas, Kansas City area, and more. Our efforts, time, and funds are localized to the surrounding community. We believe in removing barriers in order to better support children and families- cost being one of them. Camp Kesem is completely free to all campers who attend. We rely exclusively on donations to serve campers. Fundraising during the year is incredibly important to this mission.

5 million children are coping with a parent's cancer diagnosis. That’s 5 million children at risk of experiencing increased anxiety, emotional isolation, loss of social interest, and/or feelings of hopelessness. And that’s why, at Kesem, we are committed to creating a world where every child who has a parent with a cancer diagnosis or has lost a parent to cancer is never alone. We support these children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community.
