The mission of Cara Mia Theatre (CMT) is to inspire and engage people to uplift their communities through transformative Latinx theatre, multicultural youth arts experiences and community action. Founded in 1996 as the first Dallas theatre to focus on the Chicano experience, CMT has evolved into reflecting the experience of all Latinos living in the United States, thereby giving voice and representation to communities that are typically ignored and stereotyped by mainstream media. CMT has made a commitment to a value system that supports an original aesthetic, excellence in practice, cultural authenticity, and social justice. In addition to its regular season of theatrical productions and community action programming, CMT provides after-school and summer fine arts education to underserved youth in Dallas/Fort-Worth communities of color.
