I am co-chair for Cedar Rapids Washington High School's Post Prom Committee. It is a volunteer position, though I also work for the school district. Our Post Prom committee is collecting donations from local and national companies to gift our seniors at their post prom event at the local bowling alley on April 30, 2022. The Seniors have endured more than their share of setbacks these last two years.

This class not only endured the challenges of the COVID pandemic but our community also was struck on August 10, 2020 with a devastating Derecho that hit our city of Cedar Rapids with unforseen 140 mile winds that were sustained for 45 minutes. The Derecho damaged not only destroyed 70% of our trees, every home in the city sustained some damage, but sadly it also damaged EVERY school in the Cedar Rapids School District including Washington High School. Due to the damages, the students were not allowed back in the building until the Fall of 2021. The negative impact it has had on our students, their families, the CRCSD staff, and our community has been heartbreaking.
