For over 43 years, the Center for Humanistic Change has been providing education, information, training and resources in the Lehigh Valley community aimed at preventing drug, alcohol, and tobacco product abuse and addiction. We partner with other organizations and also hold forums, workshops, and training in workplaces, places of worship, in jails, anywhere people want to improve and grow. Our programs help people - especially youth - to develop and find the tools and information they need to make well-informed and positive life choices, including avoiding the pitfalls of drugs and other substances.

Some of our programs are centered in area schools for K-12. Children these days come to school with more than their backpacks: trouble at home or with peers, drugs being used all around them, dealing with a mental or emotional problem, incarcerated parent or caregiver, loss and grief, crime and violence, poverty and hunger, and the list goes on. The lure of feeling "good" even for just a while or fitting in or "looking cool" can send then down a dangerous road that affectes their health, relationships, and potential for success. Our programs like the CHC Mentoring in-school program, work with school staff to identify children that may benefit from the one-on-one support of a well-trained mentor. Mentors wear many hats for the children they work with: counselor, parent, teacher, but mostly a trusted friend who cares and helps them find their own gifts, solutions, and resilience to be successful in school and beyond.
