CCSC was founded in 1980 by six local churches to combine efforts to meet the immediate needs of people in crisis. The organization has since grown to a coalition of 39 churches. Alongside individual supporters of CCSC, this coalition provides emergency food, financial assistance, children’s services, and employment training to Houston families in need. Our mission is to serve the poor, hungry, disabled, and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences.
CCSC is vital to the underserved in our community, and community support is essential to CCSC. Here is a glimpse at what CCSC provided in 2021:
- 25,211 nutritious food packages were provided to struggling Houstonians
- Over $450,000 in rent and utility assistance, helping 927 families cope with lost income
- Job training, coaching, and other employment services for 567 jobseekers working to build financial stability
- New school supplies and clothing for 6,802 vulnerable students
- Christmas toys and books for 1,741 children in need and 498 holiday grocery assistance gift cards shared with their families
