Mission Statement: Collective Oyster Recycling & Restoration, CORR is an environmental 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating a collaborative Connecticut shell recovery and recycling network and creating a sustainable supply shell for shellfish restoration projects in Long Island Sound. Ultimately improving the health, biodiversity, and vitality of our local marine ecosystems.

The Benefits of Oysters: Oysters provide numerous environmental benefits. They improve water quality via filter feeding. Healthy oyster reefs provide habitat for other marine organisms, protect against coastal erosion, and help sustain the commercial shellfish industry in Long Island Sound.

Why Recycle Oyster and Clam Shells?: Oyster and clam shells are crucial components of marine ecosystems. Shells are the preferred substrate for new oyster settlement and essential for rebuilding and restoring oyster reefs. Unfortunately, shells are in short supply, preventing this crucial restoration work from happening. Almost all shells from oysters and clams consumed in Connecticut end up in landfills contributing to our current waste crisis. By recycling the shells, we mitigate the environmental impact and create a sustainable supply of shells for ongoing restoration projects in Long Island Sound.
