I am writing on behalf of Columbia Learning Center and The Black Tie Blue Jean Auction Committee - Tax ID# 93-1165080 - A Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization.

Over the past 23 years the Columbia Learning Center has offered Chance to Become Scholarships to 289 students from the five high schools in Columbia County. This $5,000 scholarship award provides an educational opportunity for students who may not otherwise have the resources to attend college or trade school. This event, which is held once every two years, has provided more than $1 million in scholarships to Columbia County students. Since the 2019 Black Tie event, four years ago, we have offered 52 more $5,000 scholarships to graduating Columbia County students. That is a total of $260,000. Those results is due directly to the generosity of businesses and individual.

Chance to Become is funded by the Black Tie and Blue Jeans Summer Social, Dinner, and Auction, which is held every other year, at the Deer Island Stock Ranch. We are writing to ask you to support this year’s event by being a sponsor, donating items or cash, or reserving a table.

There are many great reasons to be a part of Black Tie, but perhaps the greatest of these is the knowledge that you are helping a student, who might otherwise never have the chance, by giving them an opportunity to attend college or trade school. As one of our local high school principals told us:

“I feel that The Chance to Become Scholarship is unique in the students that it goes to.  At our school, it is awarded to students who do not generally get scholarships.  For many of them, this has meant they are able to attend college when they might not have without this opportunity.  It is my favorite scholarship.”

However you decide to help, your donation will benefit the Chance to Become Scholarship program. Thank you for your consideration and generous support.
