Community Thread’s vision is a community where all people are engaged, enriched, and connected.

Our mission is to maximize resources and engage volunteers to improve the quality of life for adults and their families in our local community.

Community Thread began in 1967 when a group of concerned citizens identified a problem: people who no longer were able to drive needed rides to medical appointments. Knowing that we live in a community where people care about each other, these caring community leaders recruited volunteers to address the need. As the founding concept of the organization, Community Thread continues to connect people with needs to volunteers willing to help. We also directly support older adults and their families needing resources and options to live independently.

Our volunteer-oriented programs serve people of all ages. Families, individuals, employees and students participate in our signature service initiatives, which occur four times a year. High school students are engaged through the varsity letter in Community Service program at Stillwater Area High School, and we provide opportunities for adults of all ages to volunteer in a variety of ways through Community Thread and many other organizations in the area.

Our programs for older adults, include social activities, special events, volunteer opportunities, and direct services within the community. Programming is offered at both our Stillwater and Bayport locations.

For over 50 years, Community Thread has made our region a better place to live by providing opportunities to learn, socialize and stay engaged with older adult programs, transportation to doctor appointments, help with household chores and tax returns, and connections to volunteer opportunities.
