Congregation Beth Shalom (“House of Peace) Rodfe Zedek (“Pursuers of Justice”)

Our mission statement:

‘As an eclectic and welcoming family, we strive to embody our name, “House of Peace, Pursuers of Justice”: to nurture each heart and soul, to provide space for spiritual, cultural and intellectual engagement and growth, to act for justice and righteousness in the world, to joyfully celebrate our tradition, our values and the study of Torah, and to experience a Judaism most vibrant for the 21st century. We welcome all to join in the journey.’

Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek is a small, reform Jewish synagogue located in Chester, CT. We welcome all types of mixed-faith families and single members. Our rabbi and cantor lead regular Shabbat worship services weekly, as well as holiday and special services. Our religious school program provides students the opportunity to learn and explore the traditions and teachings of Judaism to help find their unique self-expression, meaning and purpose in life.

We welcome all types of mixed-faith families and single Jewish members. We are inclusive of all LGBTQ+ lifestyles and family units. Financial status is irrelevant to membership, as no one is turned away based on financial status. We are a loving, close knit and welcoming community, striving to enhance the spiritual lives and connectedness of Jewish families and individual in an area of Connecticut where the Jewish population is minimal.

Our Jewish community values Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, and CBSRZ contributes to this in a variety of ways through community service and events. We regularly partner with other local charitable organizations, such as the Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries, the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Dignity Grows, as well as holding food drives and winter coat and clothing drives for an elementary school in Hartford. Our members also contribute to a number of Social Action/Social Justice causes throughout the year.
