Couleecap's mission is to fight poverty and promote self-sufficiency, economic development and social justice. We are People Helping People, and every day our actions make a differenc ein the lives of people and families throughout Crawford, La Crosse, Monroe and Vernon counties in Western Wisconsin.
Couleecap has been the area Community Action Agency for more than 57 years, and currently operates over 20 programs. We employ an average 65 staff and are governed by a 18-24 member Board of Directors.
Our staff and Board are dedicated to supporting individuals and families by providing comprehensive programming designed with imput from the low-income community and a regional community needs assessment, completed every three years. Couleecap's staff are highly skilled at working with individuals and families, and work quickly to get them the assistance they need.
In 2022 more than 23,500 people benefitted from Couleecap's programs and services, such as emergecncy food assistance, disaster recovery assistance, housing counseling, supportive housing and case management, home weatherization, emergency furnace repair or replacement, housing rehabilitation assistance, down payment/home purchase funds, loans to purchase or repair vehicles so they can get to work, education and training assistance, and business development assistance. Since our establishment in 1966, we have implemented over 235 programs to address poverty in our region, serving over 976,000 people.
