Approximately 30,000 babies are born prematurely every year in Canada; 1 in 12 babies. Any baby born at less than 37 weeks gestation is at risk of long-term complications. Parents of these babies are a higher risk for post-partum depression, anxiety and PTSD. Our vision at the Canadian Premature Babies Foundation (CPBF) is to create a brighter future for all families and their babies.

Prematurity is the leading cause of childhood disability and death under the age of 5. Long term morbidity outcomes are a concern in this population, with increased risk for neurodevelopment disabilities, cognitive and language delays, and emotional and behavioural problems. While younger infants are at highest risk of long-term morbidities, even those born a few weeks early have higher adverse outcomes than infants born at term.
CPBF has developed and continues to develop partnerships across Canada and the world; all with the common goal of advocating for and providing support to premature babies and their families. Our mission is to empower families of premature babies every step of the way, through support and education.

Our delivery of programs and services focus on 4 specific areas:
1. Family Support
2. Education
3. Research
4. Awareness-Advocacy
We cannot do this alone. It’s only with the support of our partners, CPBF has been able to reach a wider audience of parents and health care providers in Canada and worldwide, has delivered high quality programs.

While we have accomplished so much, we still have a lot of work to do.
