Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects more than 40,000 people in the United States and over 100,000 people worldwide. In people with cystic fibrosis, a defective gene causes a thick buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria, leading to infections, extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission is to CURE cystic fibrosis and provide ALL people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, partnering with the CF community, and advancing high-quality, specialized care.
