Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Arizona is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving the needs of some of Arizona’s most vulnerable individuals. Our mission is to change lives by unlocking and nurturing human potential for people with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences.

The Devereux Foundation was founded in 1912 by Helena Devereux, a Philadelphia teacher. She observed that children with special needs were underserved by the public education system and began teaching some of these children in her own home. She believed that all children could learn and grow in an environment tailored to their needs. Devereux now operates centers in 12 states across the country. In 1967, we began providing care in Arizona after establishing a therapeutic day school for at-risk children on 10 acres of donated land in Scottsdale.

Last year, we helped thousands of individuals in Maricopa and Pima Counties through our extensive array of services. These programs include residential treatment, outpatient counseling, an adolescent health and wellness clinic, therapeutic foster care, and respite care. Many of them have experienced significant trauma as a result of verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse and family instability. More than 90% of our clients are low-income and more than 50% are minorities. Our work is a lifeline for thousands of vulnerable children, teens, and families throughout the state each year.
