Our mission is to transform and empower the lives of underprivileged youth through an enhanced appreciation of art and music. It is our goal to help at-risk youth grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and musically through access to art and music excellence. We believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion. We foster and encourage creative thinking and artistic growth through access to programs, activities, and information. We strive to eliminate barriers that limit opportunities for cultural development by providing free programs, special events, and workshops to students in the community. We provide a showcase for young talent that we believe will help reduce dropout rates and recidivism.
The DJ Demp Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the youth and young adults within our community through music appreciation, education, and cultural enrichment that promote resilience, purpose, responsibility, and positive self-esteem. Our foundation exists to provide educational and informational opportunities to the public, with a particular emphasis on youth programs that promote the importance of music, and help youth develop an appreciation, understanding, and proficiency in music.
We use music to address social issues. Programs like our free anti-bullying rally focus on eradicating bullying, ridiculing, teasing, and harassment in school. Bullying has a serious and lasting negative effect on the mental health and overall well-being of youth. We work to combat the negative outcomes of bullying, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and poor social performance. Our program centers on aiding students in identifying what bullying is and helping parents train their children on how to recognize bullying and stand up to bullies. We focus on social-emotional learning. In our program, real-life situations are outlined to aid students in practicing communication skills to combat bullying behavior. We provide information and access to after-care services, education, and support to students because we believe that student success in learning depends on a caring, safe, and responsive environment. The program includes live performances by local artists that help build a deep, positive musical connection in the community and reinforces self-importance.
Through our foundation, we emphasize music's amazing benefits. Through music, we push to broaden the lives of young people. For years’ music education and appreciation funding has been cut in public schools because of economic strain, our foundation seeks to bridge the gap in underserved communities. Our focus is to provide access to the arts to restore and inspire our community. Music inspires.
