Don jose de ortega chapter is part of the national Daughters of the American Revolution. As a strictly volunteer organization, all funds raised and donated go to help our many charitable activities and projects, including providing thousands of dollars each year of food, clothing and toiletries to our local homeless veterans; hundreds of dollars of books, Constitution Week teaching materials and history lesson plans to schools; $2,000 in college scholarships for students in science, education and nursing; historical site preservation; and other community support. Most of the funds spent on these projects is raised at our annual fundraiser in June, our only fundraiser each year. In addition, our members raise other monies for conservation organizations (including replanting our local burn areas), raise Guide Dogs for the blind, and teach literacy to both children and adults.
