Early Alert Canines
...a Diabetic's Best Friend
Our Mission
Early Alert Canines (EAC) is dedicated to improving the health, safety, and well-being of Type 1 diabetics through partnerships with certified Diabetic Alert Dogs. We train and provide medical alert assistance dogs to insulin-dependent diabetics who need them.
About Us
Established in 2010, EAC operates its own training facility in Concord, CA, and serves clients in California, Oregon Washington and Nevada. EAC was founded on the premise that those who could benefit from a Diabetic Alert Dog should have access to one regardless of age or financial status. Our professional staff and dedicated volunteers handle all aspects of dog/client training, socialization, fostering, certification, client matching, post-placement support and annual re-certification to ensure sustainable long-term success. The Power of Scent
While Continuous Glucose Monitors are the cornerstone tools used to manage diabetes, a Diabetic Alert Dog can greatly augment a diabetic’s ability to manage the disease. Through their superior sense of smell, our trained dogs are able to detect the biochemical scent that a diabetic’s body emits as blood glucose begins to drop at an 80-90% level of accuracy and can alert up to 15-20 minutes earlier than current blood glucose monitoring technology. Those extra minutes can directly improve the health and safety of a diabetic by catching blood sugar changes and intervening before they become problematic or even life-threatening.Events
