EASEL's mission is to reduce the number of unwanted animals euthanized in Mercer County through collaborative coalitions and community alliances. Our vision is a community where the human-animal bond is strong and an environment of respect for living creatures guarantees animals a healthy indoor home or safe habitat.

We work to:

–          Maintain a no-kill, best-practices animal shelter

–          Facilitate placement of stray and unwanted pets in desirable homes

–          Prevent overpopulation and cruelty to animals

–          Promote responsible pet ownership through humane education

–          Build Mercer County’s first regional no-kill adoption center

Over the last five years, EASEL has found homes for over 1,400 cats and 1,200 dogs. We have spayed or neutered over 5,400 dogs and cats through our community animal assistance programs and stray cat colonies. EASEL also educates the public about TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).

EASEL is unique among other rescue organizations in New Jersey due to our collaborative coalition model. Not only are we one of the few rescues in the state to partner with a municipality to run their shelter, but we have also developed partnerships with numerous rescues and shelters, including Animal Allies, St. Hubert’s, Best Friends Animal Society, and North Shore Animal League, to save more animals.

EASEL also works with local businesses to promote the advancement of animal welfare. We do this by involving local businesses in our efforts, by means of humane education, acquiring donations and publicizing the local businesses in the community.
