"Bringing joy to those in need, through the unconditoinal love of animals".

Our goal at The Enrichment Farm is to share the unconditional love that only animals can provide with those who need it most. By using the animal/human bond we can give a sense of comfort to those who are in distress. Along with their handlers, Tripp and Fancy, our two miniature horses, travel to facilities like assisted living, hospice, girls' homes and pediatric therapist. This dynamic duo provides EAT (Equine Assisted Therapy) and EAA (Equine Assisted Activities). They have both been trained and desensitized to be within the human environment. Yes! They go on visits indoors. Just like your favorite dogs, Tripp and Fancy are house trained. Special shoes are worn, made especially for horses, to prevent slipping on smooth surface flooring. We work extensively to make sure they are prepared for any surprises that may arise while inside. We also prepare them to be in contact with various social groups and age ranges.

Our friends in assisted living and memory care are always excited to see us walk through the door. Their faces light up and we have experienced residents remembering Tripp and Fancy’s names. They even ask for us when we aren’t there. Hospice patients get a little distraction and comedic relief while we are visiting. Family members and nursing staff also enjoy a break.
Priority for us is to work with children who have mental, physical, emotional and social disabilities. Tripp and Fancy take part in therapy sessions with their friends who are on the Autism Spectrum which helps aid in calmness and more information being absorbed. One of Tripp’s favorite activities is to play kickball in group social sessions. This encourages participation and aids in social skills. Fancy’s favorite friends are in our local girls’ home. She loves to let the girls brush her, braid her tail and she is always willing to listen. Many of the girls have been able to open and share things with Fancy that they are too embarrassed or ashamed to mention to a counselor. You see, animals do not judge. They are much easier to talk to. It’s an excellent way for the girls to let go of things that have been on their minds and move forward to a healthier life.

So where do we go from here? We have big plans! The goal for this year is to extend our reach. There are so many more children who need our help. Our local children’s hospital, for example, is a place we really want to visit. For a long-term goal, we want to have our own facility where individuals can come and visist with a variety of animals. Again, extend our reach by inviting Veterans to experience that unconditional love. Helping our friends who are on the spectrum learn life skills by coming and taking care of the animals is also something we are excited about.
