The Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) student organization at The George Washington University Law School dedicated to raising money to support students who take on unpaid summer public interest internships. Every summer, law students from The George Washington University Law School volunteer and take part in public service internships for nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies. The Equal Justice Foundation (EJF) recognizes the immeasurable value of this work and its benefit to our communities. Unfortunately most such positions are unpaid. In order to help eliminate this financial burden, EJF fundraises money throughout the year to provide summer stipends to eligible students with unpaid public interest internships who do not otherwise qualify for the Law School’s summer public interest funding. Past interns have worked with Environment America, the Maryland Public Defender’s Office, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, The Public Interest Network, Montgomery County Public Schools, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the Poverty & Race Research Action Council, and the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. EJF currently has a membership of over 350 students at the law school that we direct towards public service jobs and opportunities and we typically provide around 10-20 students with $3,000 stipends every summer.
