Equip KIDS International is a grassroots, international development organization dedicated to supporting children with disabilities and their families in the global south ("developing nations"). We work primarily in Peru in the areas of assistive technology, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), education and awareness, and human rights promotion.
We provide much-need supports such as wheelchairs, walkers, and communication and educational supports to children living in poverty who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them. Without these supports, such children usually spend all day in bed and have little hope for a bright future. This also impacts the extended family's economic situation and life chances, as one adult must stay home to care for the child and there are often extra costs associated with caring for a disabled child. But, when the above basic yet urgent needs are met, children are able to go to school and develop friendships, and they and their families have far greater opportunities to engage with the community and to live happy and healthy lives.
We aim to give every child (and family) the opportunity to live a life with dignity, agency, fun and opportunity, and we want to make the world a more inclusive and welcoming place for all!
