Education Through Music-Los Angeles (ETM-LA) partners with under-resourced schools in predominantly marginalized communities to provide music as a core subject for all children, and utilizes music education as a catalyst to improve academic achievement, motivation for school and self-confidence. Since 2006, we have expanded from 2 schools and 800 children to 43 schools reaching over 19,000 schoolchildren with weekly music as part of the core curriculum.
Through quality music instruction connected to the Common Core State Standards and Arts Framework, students achieve academically, creatively and socially, supporting:
- A child's ability to listen, pay attention, and focus.
- A child's ability to create, perform, respond, and connect.
- A child's self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Connections to diverse cultures and their community.
- Learning in other subjects.
Each child receives general music with differentiated instruction per grade level, building musical skills and concepts in a sequential comprehensive manner. Each music lesson is centered on aims that integrate both music objectives and common core benchmarks.
ETM-LA believes all students deserve quality music education as part of a well-rounded education.
