Families First partners with parents to amplify their power so they can positively impact the lives of children and communities through our groundbreaking programs.
Families First provides a comprehensive approach to parenting education and family engagement. We will engage approximately 900 parents. Projected growth in our five-year business plan shows 20%+ growth each year. We primarily work with parents of children between birth to age eight in Greater Boston and Western Massachusetts, most of whom have a low income.
We offer two programs in partnership with local organizations, such as early childhood centers, housing developments, and schools, so we can engage parents in the neighborhoods where they live. The Power of Parenting is a 12-week parenting education program, and the Ripple Program is a family engagement program to build parent voices and leadership into decision-making at local, municipal, and state agencies. We partner with organizations in communities with high levels of poverty and structural inequity. Programs are offered in-person and virtually in English and Spanish.
We value a collaborative approach to our work that leverages the lived experiences and direct input of community partners and parent participants. Alumni from our programs are on our staff and board and are key to organizational decision-making, such as the creation of our updated mission and vision statements. Our new Parent Representative Committee has 13 alumni participants who advise on key programmatic decisions and ensure that we are responsive to community needs.
