Family Life Shelter has operating in the Mt Vernon Illinois area serving the least of these that traditional shelters won't serve. We opened our shelter in December 2017 as a warming shelter with a vision to shelter, clothe and feed the homeless. After being open for five years, the vision has grown as we've seen the need to continue and expand. We are breaking ground to build a year around shelter this year.
While at the shelter, guests are given food, showers, help with obtaining identification, resources for jobs and housing. The guests are also given opportunities to serve the community by serving in different ways. Over the years we have found it takes more than a building with cots and food, it also takes love, compassion, and kindness from a giving community.
