After 343 New York City firefighters were lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks, Firefighters First Credit Union was entrusted with charitable donations from the community. This led to the creation of Fire Family Foundation in 2008, whose mission is to provide support and financial assistance to firefighters and their families in times of need. We provide grants to firefighters experiencing financial hardship, support for mental health programs and resources, disaster relief to firefighters, grants to other fire charities nationwide, and scholarships to firefighters’ children each year. Firefighters from anywhere in the United States are eligible to apply for our services.
We rely on firefighters to protect our communities but they also suffer losses and face many obstacles just like the rest of us. They endure some of the most unimaginable situations which affect them physically and emotionally. They take pride in helping others and don’t like to ask for help in return. Fire Family Foundation stands ready to serve them and their families when important needs arise.
Firefighters First Credit Union covers the Foundation’s overhead costs, ensuring 100% of donations directly support its mission and programs.
