Foothill Unity Center (FUCI)  was founded over forty years ago with the goal of feeding a few hungry families. We have expanded to provide Health, Food, Crisis Case Management, Job Development, Volunteerism, and  Housing & Homlessness Services to our community, with a location in Monrovia and another in Pasadena.  In 2016, we began our Capital Campaign for a larger Monrovia site to increase operational efficacy to meet our growing need. In 2018, we were able to secure the initial funds. Today, over 85% of the $6,200,000 has been paid..

We work to remove barriers for the low-income and working poor, creating access and opportunity for underserved communities. In 2021, we served 13,820 individuals with our programs, designed to provide a safety net for the disadvantaged to prevent homelessness and support those as they break the cycles of poverty. Traditionally we served Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Duarte, Irwindale, Monrovia, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena and Temple City. However, as a result of COVID-19, we have expanded our boundaries to meet the growing needs of our community and those around us.

At FUCI, we reach out to those we serve to understand their needs, so that we know how best to utilize our services. As a Community Action Agency we conduct a formal survey every two years, with additional conversations taking place with participants throughout the year. Open communication helped us to see the increased need for food delivery, leading us to do 7x as many food deliveries taking place in 2021 than before COVID-19.

FUCI focuses on aiding our neighbors in crisis to attain self-sufficiency by partnering with the community and using our resources wisely. We greatly appreciate all of our partners and the work that they allow us to do. The invaluable support of USC’s Ostrow School of Dentistry in our annual Mobile Dental Clinic, Department of Mental Health with our monthly workshops, and every organization from the Kiwanis club to Community Partners make it possible to not only provide incredible events like Back to School and Holiday, but to serve our community throughout the year.
