Foster the Family (FTF) was founded in New Jersey by Jamie Finn, seeking to find community and resources for foster families welcoming vulnerable children in their home. FTF began offering FosterCare welcome packages that are curated for each child welcomed by a foster family, and added a monthly peer-led support group for foster, kinship and adoptive moms to keep going in this difficult work of parenting children affected by trauma.
There are now offices in 6 states providing care packages and holisitc programming to assist foster family retention to avoid additional disruption to vulnerable children. Foster the Family Baltimore launched in June 2022, and serves Central Maryland, with a majority of the need in Baltimore City and County. We have a stockroom in Catonsville, where new items are stored for volunteers to pack for a child's individual needs within the first week of placement with a foster or kinship family. Aside from tangible resources, FTF Baltimore also leads 4 monthly support groups, two of which are in Baltimore City and County. These peer-led groups provide training hours required for foster parent licensure, but also discussion time to have support by like-minded moms. Another monthly program offered is "Kids Day Out", which is 3 hours of free childcare for foster and adoptive families, providing lunch or dinner for the children who attend.
In addition to our monthly programs, we have numerous family events throughout the year, including Winter Wonderland, Family Bingo, Pool Party, Holiday Dinner, as well as playground meet-ups, family hikes, and hair care tutorials.
