Franny's Crew was created in memory of Captain Chris "Franny" Francis. Chris was a proud son, father, Pawpaw, friend, and 25-year veteran of the Mehlville Fire Protection District in the suburbs of St. Louis County. Chris had a passion for helping others, not only as a firefighter, but with philanthropic efforts throughout his community. Chris passed on April 2nd, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer he sustained in the line-of-duty.
After Chris's passing, his family and friends established Franny's Crew to provide financial and educational support to first responders and their families struggling with occupational cancer.
The foundation provides grants to first responders and their families to assist with the burdens of medical costs and daily needs when their hero can no longer continue to work. We also provide first responders with information on additional services and organizations that support first responders with cancer. Furthermore, we provide all first responders with information on preventative care and warning signs to help reduce the number of losses due to cancer.
Recent studies produced by the CDC found that first responders, specifically firefighters, have higher cases of digestive, oral, respiratory, and urinary cancers than the general U.S. population. In recent years, with the exception of COVID, more than half of first responder line-of-duty deaths have been cancer-related.
