FOHA is the enduring gold standard in quality for no-kill rescues, saving and improving the lives of homeless cats and dogs. We strive to:

• Bring an end to the unnecessary killing of companion animals
• Provide a safe haven for abused and abandoned animals
• Provide food, shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, and compassion to homeless animals
• Find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our care
• And, most importantly, bring about a time when there will be no more homeless pets and every dog and cat can be guaranteed a loving home

Unique initiatives include:

• The Senior Care Plan, which waives adoption fees for senior dogs and reimburses up to $1500 in medical
• FIV+ Cat Program - FOHA is proud to be one of a handful of shelters and rescues in Virginia that consistently rescues cats testing positive for FIV.
• Have a Heart – Heartworm Program, where FOHA regularly brings in dogs that are Heartworm positive and treats them
• Enrichment programs for dogs and cats, including Tails to Trails, where senior volunteers take dogs for a 3 mile hike once a week at a local park
